Leona Ruth Farmer

March 5, 1932 — June 3, 2022

Leona Ruth (Foy) Farmer, aged 90, of Dickson, Tennessee, went into her eternal reward on June 3, 2022. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family and in the presence of angels. She was a wonderful mother and best friend to her children; and she was considered a beloved second mother to many who were deeply impacted by her lovingkindness and generosity of spirit. “Grandmas House” held memories of board games, story time and baking cookies. Her lifelong prayer was a family that loved the Lord. Born into a rich heritage, Leona was a Mayflower descendant; a great many of her ancestors pioneered settlements throughout the Colonies, and many fought in the Revolutionary War. She was born in Apollo, Pennsylvania during the Depression Era; as a result of her upbringing, she was thrifty throughout her life and didn’t believe in wasteful living. Since receiving her first Brownie camera at the age of twelve, Leona documented a life filled with treasured memories and family travels and eventually filled a bookcase with her photo albums. She loved to visit historic sites and National Parks and showed her family the beauty of America from the coast to coast. (Our dad always drove from point A to point B in record time. Our mom created a multi-stop journey, finding interesting sites along the way). She was an avid gardener and loved trying new recipes. Daily journaling; one could also find her actively working on a crossword or tabletop puzzle. Daily exercising; she had greater flexibility than many 50 year olds. Daily reading her bible, she knew it by heart; but moreover, she had an abiding relationship with her Savior and Friend, Christ Jesus, secure in the love of her Heavenly Father. Leona loved to worship while playing her organ. She and Don moved their family from Pennsylvania to Waco, Texas in 1969 and a book could be written about their adventures! In later life they moved to Tennessee to be cared for by their daughters. Leona was predeceased by Donald D. Farmer, her husband of 67 yrs., their eldest son Leslie Farmer, and her dear sister, Rebecca Makosy. She leaves behind her remaining children: Vicki Adams, Linda and Kyler Thomas, Ruthann and Steve Fryer, Michael Farmer, Donald and Nici Farmer; 14 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Don & Marilyn Foy, of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She is dearly loved; and while her presence here on earth will be missed tremendously, we know there is a glorious homecoming celebration taking place in Heaven.
