Brent Lemonds, MS., R.N., EMT-P, FACHE, Administrator for Service Improvement at Vanderbilt University Hospital died Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his residence in Franklin, Tennessee while recovering from a recent orthopaedic surgery. He was 50 years of age. From 2003-2012 he was the Administrator for Emergency Services and had added responsibility for the Resuscitation Program which oversees resuscitation course training for the medical center and the Rapid Response Team for Vanderbilt University Hospital. In 2009, he became responsible for Vanderbilt's LifeFlight program as part of the Emergency Services role. He is an experienced educator, nurse, paramedic, and administrator. He also served on staff with Alive Hospice in Nashville. Past positions have included Director of Emergency, Flight, and Trauma Services for Johnson City Medical Center, of the Mountain States Health Alliance. Executive Director of Emergency Services Center of Excellence for Jackson-Madison County General Hospital; Director of Medical Center EMS, a multi-county EMS operation; and program director and instructor of Emergency Medical Technology for Jackson State Community College. He also served as adjunct faculty for the Vanderbilt School of Nursing in the areas of management and disaster management. He was Board Certified in healthcare management by the American College of Healthcare Executives. He published research in print in the area of patient safety and was a nationally renowned speaker on patient safety and satisfaction. Brent has also served the Tennessee State Board of Emergency Medical Services as board member and consultant. He is survived by one son Chase (Erin) Lemonds of Hixson; two daughters Bekah Lemonds of Dallas, Texas and Anna Rachel Lemonds of Franklin; mother Betty Levister of Jackson, step-mother Jewel Lemonds of Lexington; sister Cheri (Lonnie) Hollingsworth of Hollow Rock. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lemonds. Services will be held on Thursday, September 13th, at 10:00 am at the Granny White Church of Christ, 3805 Granny White Pike, Nashville, TN with Jeff Davis officiating. Vanderbilt University Medical Center Emergency Services, LifeFlight staff, along with all other EMS, and flight service personnel will serve as honorary pallbearers.
