Mr. Alvin Lloyd Carter was born August 6, 1930 to Ellis Lloyd and Theva (Underhill) Carter in Detroiit, Michigan. He passed away March 29, 2012 at the Alive Hospice of Nashville. He is survived by: wife of 52 years Mary Ann (Thompson) Carter; sisters-in-law Marla Thompson and Ima Jean Greene; brother-in-law Walton Thompson and his wife Sandra; sisters Freida Dunlap and Wanda Hiett. He is preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Carter is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with degrees in mathematics and engineering. After serving four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he went to work for the federal government, working first at White Sands tesing grounds and later at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He retired in 1985 and returned to Tennessee. He enjoyed traveling, all sports (especially golf). He was a member of the Belle Meade United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Belle Meade United Methodist Church (Room-in-the-Inn program), the Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31st from 4-8 pm at the Dickson Funeral Home. Services will be Sunday, April 1st, at the Belle Meade United Methodist Church beginning at 2 pm with Rev. Tom Gildemeister officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday one hour prior to service. Burial will follow the service in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens.
