Katherine Colleen El Amri

September 1, 1943 — December 5, 2011

El Amri, Katherine Colleen Ehart; 68 Dickson, TN Colleen was born on September 1, 1943 to Ruby and Oathy W. Ehart in Tucamcari, New Mexico. She grew up out West living in many places as her father followed construction jobs. Changing schools frequently did not hinder Colleen's academic progress. In fact, she excelled in her studies, earning degrees from the University of Denver and Tennessee State University. A youth of the JFK era, Colleen served for two years in the Peace Corps teaching English in Tunisia where she met her steadfast and loving husband, Mustapha El Amri. Good fortune brought two children, Sheila El Amri Brantley (James) and Sami El Amri, as well as four granddaughters, Sophia, Hannah, Madeleine, and Tessa, and Tennessee has been home to the family for 33 years. Colleen retired after having taught 28 happy years at the Ensworth School. A passionate Barbershopper, Colleen became a member of the award winning Metro Nashville Chorus of Sweet Adelines in 1991. Colleen's upbeat attitude and sense of humor were contagious and garnered her admiration from her many associates throughout her life and journey with cancer. In addition to her husband and children, Colleen is survived by her mother, Ruby Montgomery, brother, Leslie Ehart (Carol), and brother Kevin Ehart (Cindy). Memorials may be made to the Metro Nashville Chorus (1852 Wilson Pike, Franklin TN 37067) or the Ensworth School.(211 Ensworth Ave, Nashville TN 37205) A celebration of Colleen's life will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 10:30am at the Ensworth Middle School.
